Dinner at Adam Reid at The French is a truly memorable occasion! We are seated on arrival in a quiet corner of the pre dinner drink area enjoying a glass of Pol Roger champagne and having a good catch up before Kamila Plonska the efficient Restaurant Manager seats us in our spacious booth. We are presented copies of our 6 course tasting menu, each course paired with a matching wine and then the performance begins! Prior to the 6 course tasting menu we have an array of beautifully presented appetisers including home brined ham and smoked trout all of which tempt the taste buds with delicious flavours.
Each course is then presented by different team members including chefs from the Brigade who describe each dish in detail with total passion; which is a really nice touch, as usually the chefs are hidden away working in the kitchen! We have hints of dishes from Adam’s menu he produced for The Great British Menu where his winning dish “Comfort Food Sounds Good” – Rhug Estate chicken, barley, sweetcorn & turnip stew was served at the Great British Menu banquet. Incidentally Adam’s Great British Menu dishes are available to try and experience on a special GBM tasting experience.
My personal favourite, although it was hard to choose as all courses were amazing was “Almond poached cod, elderflower hollandaise and courgette” – delicious delicate flavour of cod and the smoothest hollandaise I have ever tasted!
There is a very relaxed atmosphere in this restaurant with super friendly staff and excellent food – to me personally, the food is worthy of a Michelin star! It’s well worth a visit!
