Following its £20m refurbishment a year or so ago it has introduced a number of initiatives ranging from an alliance with Virgin Trains to allow conference delegates to block book tickets up to 12 months in advance at discounted prices, to developing menus to keep delegates alert and avoid the sugar laden slump especially after lunch. The hotel also sources as much of its produce as locally as possible and incorporates the fresh ingredients into its tempting cuisine, including a Rowntree’s fruit shot from York itself and flour from local mills.
The service is personal and thoughtful too. Whether it be welcoming the organiser and delegates to the hotel and accompanying them to the event space or looking after female guests and ensuring they have a bedroom away from the end of a corridor or with a peephole.The team are encouraged to take the initiative and exceed the guests expectations with a very human approach and thoughtful gestures.
As a result the hotel has seen its guest satisfaction rate increase to 93% on review sites and 15% increase in positive feedback.
Offering 11 flexible conference rooms, able to cater for up to 400 delegates and 200 for a dinner it is easy to see why the hotel has welcomed each year over 100,000 delegates and hosted over 600 events .
